Job Summary
A Preschool and Extended Care Teacher is part of a team of teachers and staff responsible for the general supervision and management of children enrolled in preschool, pre-kindergarten, extended day, and/or school age children in Extended Care. The teacher must possess a minimum of 24+ Early Childhood Education credits or a Child Development Teacher Permit issued through the State of California.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Design age-appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of individual children
- Assist other teachers and staff in planning and implementing the daily program
- Responsible for helping co-workers maintain the learning environment
- Expected to model appropriate language and behavior for children
- Supervise children with regard to health and safety at all times
- Maintain professional attitude and sensitivity that reflects positively on our program
- Initiate and help staff maintain general housekeeping of our classroom
- Attend all staff meetings and classes required for professional growth
- Assist in classroom management
- Use redirection and the philosophy of Conscious Discipline to help children develop tools to independently solve problems
- Possess the ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in the classroom as they arise
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a High School graduate
- Must have completed a minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
- Possess at least 6 months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program
- Must meet all licensing regulations specified for Teacher (101216.1) in Community Care Licensing Division, Child Care Center, Title 22 Division 12
- Must have or be willing to attain Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
