Position Title: EE Hardware Systems Integration Engineer (PCI-e gen 4 or 5 exp.)
Location: Onsite in Milpitas, CA – may be some flexibility for hybrid but initially will need to be onsite all 5 days, especially during integration phases.
Length: 6 months -to- contract to hire – Looking for someone to go perm.
Process: 2 screening virtual interview and final on-site interview if local, may consider national candidate via virtual but will need permanently relocate to Fremont, CA once an offer is accepted
Ideal Start Date: February 5th or later
Background check and Drug Screen: Both Required
Scope: Client is working on next generation PCI-e technology for boards, most of their product lines are FPGA-based. The ideal candidate will come from a background in EE HW Design but will be focused on primarily system level integration work. They will be interfacing with the Design team in India and will need to have experience with all phases of HW Design to understand system-level bringup. Candidate will not be doing test or debug at the board or component level, (this will be done by the design team) but should have enough experience here to know how to integrate everything together and make sure the system works, be able to look down into the HW circuits and figure out the issues and defects a designer would know how to find, etc. This candidate will be interfacing with the System Architect, review system specs, can conduct meaningful design reviews, understand how many boards are needed, how to partition, etc. Needs to know the Standards/protocols, run the system to find the errors and determine if this is a HW design issue or system issue, etc. Experience with PCIE gen 5 is preferred/desired but anyone that has come up from prior generations 4 and up will know it’s exponentially more complicated and difficult. Client will be working on PCIe6 technology at 64 gigabit speed (as opposed to 8, 16, or 32 bit as in the prior generations).
Client is working on PCI-e gen 6, newest cutting edge technology in this space. PCI-e gen 5 products are on the market, and this is the newest protocol added. Ideal candidate will come from a client that produces motherboards and works in these communication protocols (PCI-e gen 4, PCI-e gen 5, USB, Ethernet, etc.). Viable candidates will most likely come from Dell, Intel, Samsung, HP, etc. any company that does motherboard design specifically in the CPU world and with FPGA chips. Candidate will need to know what the system level requirements are to make the FPGA work, how to manage memory bringup, power up the regulation requirement, clock requirements, noise requirements, etc.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Board and system level high speed digital circuit design, integration, and evaluation.
Perform high speed circuit simulation (HSPICE, Hyperlinx, ADS, HFSS etc) and be responsible for board verification and functionality.
Generate PCB layout guidelines and work with outside PCB layout service providers. Knowledge in high speed (> 10Gbps) layout is required.
Perform board bring up and work with firmware/logic engineers to ensure product functionality at systems level.
Develop system and board level tests and test procedures to ensure that the product meets electrical and engineering specifications. Use these procedures to transfer products to Operations.
Work with mechanical engineer to design product enclosure and cross check with electrical designs.
Design and implement unit characterization tests, production tests and integration tests. Execute, analyze, and verify test results.
Assist in EMC certification, as necessary.
