This individual will be responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of the existing and new theme park attractions (rides and shows). The individual will also be the subject matter expert for data center systems and communications infrastructures for the attractions in conjunction with the Controls Systems in Engineering and Safety group. Performs activities related to the creation, implementation, and sustainment of attraction industrial data centers and communications. Activities include supervising installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, datacenter and network support and troubleshooting, and continual auditing. Partners with global Universal Parks & Resorts on system design and architecture. Will also collaborate with Universal enterprise IT and Universal Core Safety and Engineering to deploy and maintain a park-wide Technical Services network utilizing the enterprise network backbone.
- Managing assigned projects from conceptualization, scoping and contracting, through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, validation, and closeout.
- Develops and oversees project schedules and budgetary demands.
- Preparation of scopes of work and other contractual documents for engineering projects.
- Review of engineering design, installation/implementation, and validation of systems developed by others.
- Generation of maintenance procedure and manual updates, as well as preparation and conductance of maintenance training on controls equipment.
- New attraction design oversight to ensure that designs are safe, reliable, sustainable, maintainable, and compliant with all applicable standards and specifications.
- Supporting downtime recovery efforts (performing troubleshooting and fault analysis) when necessary.
- Support of the design, development, and management of network, servers, virtualization and monitoring systems for new and existing park attractions.
- Excellent Layer 2 & 3 networking skills. Solid understanding of access and distribution LAN switching environments with VLANs, RSTP, EtherChannel, Multicast and QoS.
- Strong knowledge of firewall configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with wireless LAN technologies.
- Exposure to virtualization technologies.
- Experience with common network services, SNMP, Syslog, DNS, NTP, DHCP, AD, etc.
- Deployment of Servers and virtual environments, including but not limited to UCS, VMWare, Windows servers 2016 and 2019.
- Design and execution of acceptance testing strategies including regular auditing of existing control networks and servers for predictive maintenance purposes.
- Participate in reviews of attraction data center architecture and ensure appropriate security, scalability, safety, redundancy, reliability and sustainability design strategies are in place and are given proper weighting in the design objectives.
- Supporting the enhancement and maintenance of existing Datacenters. Working with corporate and enterprise network IT to ensure successful partnering and uptime requirements for networks & datacenters. Implementation and support of the next generation of shared services for ride show networking.
- Development of a strategy for fault management, including metrics and reporting.
- Generate system level documentation and manuals.
- Oversee existing attraction architecture renovations and updates. Understand hardware and firmware currently in use and ensure updates as appropriate for upgraded and obsolete equipment. Remain current with latest technology regarding hardware, software and security.
- Provide design and maintenance support for all attractions including training controls and tech services personnel. Maintain configuration management of hardware and software documentation. Partner with IT to ensure proper access, accountability, and processes.
- Ensure Engineering & Tech Services PCs integrate with various tools and programs that are required with technology in the field.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Experience working in OT/ICS environments.
- Exposure to audio, video, and lighting control systems is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience with IT/OT networking environments.

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Some global travel may be required (less than 30%).
- Significant vendor management.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to organize and manage a complex series of tasks and vendor(s) to develop and implement show and ride systems.
- Strength in schedule analysis and contract management required.
- Comfortable influencing decisions of major nature. High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will.
- Comfortable working in a non-routine environment with frequently changing situations.
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable technical field required. Advanced degrees preferred.
5+ years’ experience in theme park specific technical/engineering role(s) required. 3+ years vendor management experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
