Utility Maintenance Technician
Purpose:
The Utility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, operation, and optimization of milk production support systems in our plant (i.e. water supply, power supply, fire suppression system, wastewater pretreatment, HVAC, building and grounds, as well as provide backup service and support for ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, and air compressors).
Essential Responsibilities:
- All plant personnel have the responsibility to monitor and report any deviations from our Food Safety and Food Quality (HACCP & SQF) programs to the immediate supervisor.
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all plant supply fans, exhaust fans, air handling units, and make-up air units.
- Responsible for the operation & maintenance of wastewater pretreatment facility and ensure that the Plant maintains its regulatory compliance with the local sanitation district.
- Provide/coordinate general grounds keeping, concrete sealing, and periodic parking lot leveling or snow removal.
- Service and maintain water supply facility – pumphouse, water tank and associated lines.
- Provide/coordinate service for fire protection lines, heat traces, sprinkler systems and fire alarm system.
- Responsible for service of natural gas backup generator and gas pump.
- Maintain and weather-proof heat trace lines on exterior water lines.
- Ensure Plant electrical infrastructure integrity via IR survey and associated remedy.
- Record keeping, parts and materials ordering, contractor scheduling.
- Assist other technicians with service of refrigeration systems, air supply, and steam supply.
- Assist with IT Department to maintain phone/data communication system.
Other Required Responsibilities:
- Identify any skill set or knowledge deficiencies and create action-plan to close gaps (i.e. OTJ training, classroom)
- Assist other maintenance technicians in performing repairs of milk production equipment, including but not limited to - processing and packaging equipment, fork trucks, pump, and valves - on an as-needed basis.
- Responsible for Grounds, Shop Floor, Parts Shed, Wastewater Pretreatment Facility, and Pumphouse tidiness.
- Ensure open communications and professionalism with all team members and departments to resolve outstanding issues and to allow for overall workplace effectiveness.
- Help train others in your capacity to provide coverage.
- Other duties as assigned by your direct-report manager.
Knowledge and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Technical certificate preferred.
- Prior industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- One to three years facility/B&G maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals for equipment maintenance and repair.
- High level of reasoning ability to solve practical problems in situations where standardization may not exist. Ability to interpret various forms of instructions.
- Knowledge of PM procedures, welding and fabrication skills a plus.
- Knowledge of standard repair procedures for industrial equipment.
- Be able to read and understand flow, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic drawings and perform associated repairs.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and is a self-starter.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to regularly stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl around equipment. May be required to lift to 50 lbs.
- Possible exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, often in wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level requires hearing protection.
- Must be comfortable working at heights (i.e. fall protection), LOTO and other safety devices.
- Must have ability to work nights and weekends or provide coverage for other shifts as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $34.00 - $37.00 per hour
