The Fleet Maintenance Manager at our Mobile, AL location will oversee, maintain, and be responsible for the overall daily operation of the shop, ensuring efficiency. Managing mechanics working on the organization’s equipment including, but not limited to: tractors, van trailers, roll-off frames and boxes, bulk and vacuum tankers, flatbed trailers, end-dump trailers, tri-axle dump trucks, and facilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees or delegates responsibility for the day-to-day workflow of the mechanics at the Dolomite location.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Regular duties include coordinating, scheduling and auditing of vehicle maintenance repairs to include preventative, mechanical, and electrical repair to tractors, trucks and trailers, and the facility. While ensuring adherence to routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all vehicles in the company’s fleet.
- Promote positive moral within the Maintenance Dept.
- Involved in the hiring, training, and ongoing development of vehicle maintenance technicians to ensure that our highly skilled workforce can meet expectations.
- Prioritize and assign work to meet company needs.
- Ensure quality, compliance, and safety of Robbie D. Wood’s assets.
- Control repair, inventory, and labor costs.
- Meet and exceed company satisfaction.
- Coach and mentor mechanics and fabrication technicians.
- Monitor associate work levels.
- Facility management, assuring a clean and safe working environment.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
This position reports to the Director of Maintenance.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet and facility mainteannce.
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Extensive knowledge of Paccar engines.
- Knowledge of Tankers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Proficient with Dossier or similar software.
- Proficient with Samsara or similar software.
- Proficient with McLeod Loadmaster or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience in fleet maintenance or repair with at least three years in a supervisory, multi-terminal role required.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of walking and standing in the elements.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
- Must be able to push and pull up to 50 pounds of pressure at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate fleet parking lot and maintenance facilities.
- Availability for afterhours phone calls.
- Availability for weekends, if needed.
