Basic Requirements
Yard drivers should possess adequate communication skills in order to understand written and spoken instructions, excellent safety awareness and a sufficient level of physical fitness, as the job may involves some manual labor. CDL A drivers preferred but CDL B drivers may also apply. Both must be current.
Operating Equipment
Yard drivers must be able to back trailers up to dock doors, in and of the dock or around our truck yard often with other trailers on either side of the dock.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Switchers must clean out trailers before or after moving them, either using on-site equipment to wash them inside and out or by sweeping them out with a broom. Switcher driver should also know how to perform pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicle itself.
Working Conditions
Switcher driver must repeatedly climb in and out of their tractors to hook, unhook and inspect trailers, making sure all wheels are chocked, so they driver will be exposed to the elements and must be able to endure walking, bending and lifting.
When not driving switcher will be expected to operate forklift in the warehouse to assist with loading/unloading or other tasks assigned.
*All candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and must not have a felony(ies) due to the fact we are a Foreign Trade Zone.
