Job Title: Sheet Metal Roofer

SUMMARY
As a sheet metal worker with our company, you will become part of a team of stellar employees who are highly valued and skilled. As a member of our team, you will plan, lay out, repair and install sheet metal products and parts. You will get to put your technical and mathematical skills to use operating tools and machines and taking measurements according to blueprints. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Utilize and interpret blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal products
Measure, mark dimensions and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares
Fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last
Install assemblies, including pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters and furnace casings in supportive frameworks
Ensure that efficiency is maximized while fabricating and installing roofing systems
Use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance
Select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications
Ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating metal
Any other project or task necessary to ensure smooth and successful business operations.

Must read and write English at high school level. Must be able to understand and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Handwriting must be clear and legible on a consistent basis.
Must have a working knowledge of roofing practices and methods.
Must see to read forms, labels, directions, prints, and specifications.
Ability to effectively organize own schedule to ensure timely completion of all projects within the scheduled time-frames.
Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with all employees and managers of the Company and customers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and employees.
Ability to receive and follow instructions with minimum of oversight by supervisor.
Ability to follow through with instructions and complete assigned tasks.
Must have the ability to make conscious and responsible decisions.
Ability to complete assigned tasks with diligence and without complaint.
Ability to successfully follow job task and/or project to full completion, including overtime and/or weekend work when necessary.

Preferred education: High School Diploma
Required Experience: Two years satisfactory work record, in a roofing construction related position.
Preferred Experience: Two or more years’ experience in sheet metal work with a similar size or larger roofing contractor.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving many variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee maybe exposed to outside unsheltered weather conditions and all types of weather for 8 to 12 hours. The employee could be working in extremely hot or cold temperatures that could range from between 0 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually an office type environment.

Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situation that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.
Ability to frequently lift and carry between 15 and 75 pounds.
Ability to twist, reach, bend, stoop, sit, stand, turn, walk, kneel and squat frequently on a daily basis.
Also be able to be on your feet, to load trailers and the movement to and from the trailer and the staging area of our equipment and material.
Must be able to tilt material or equipment, stack material as needed, and roll on hand truck to a designated area and place on floor, ground, or in trailer without harm to themselves or material or equipment.
Must be able to lift material and equipment above a persons head to stack.
Must be physically able to mount and dismount our lifts, trucks, or tractors numerous times throughout the day.
This includes but is not limited to dismounting and remounting continuously to stack, mark, label and make ready to carry with the lift or hand trucks.
Ability to push or pull up to 150 pounds, such as a loaded wheel barrel.
Ability to work on and climb ladders up to 40 feet tall or scaffolding.
Ability to keep or regain body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.
Ability to use a tar pot, torch, wheel barrel, spud bar, shovel, rake, broom, and tar mops on a daily basis.
Ability to work in a working environment that is loud and noisy on a near constant basis.
Ability to work in an environment with fumes, dust, dirt, smoke, gases, grease and oils and solvents.
Ability to be aware of surrounding area due to working at high levels and with hot products.
Manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion.
Knowledge of and ability to follow safety practices and procedures used in working on ladders and roofs.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions year round with exposure to excessive heat and cold.
