Columbus/Newark Service Technician
SUMMARY:
The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide electrical diagnosis, test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functioning after repairs are completed, perform installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical systems. This position is responsible for scheduling electrical service work and managing customer service requests while managing multiple tasks. The position requires graduation from an electrician training and/or apprenticeship program.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Participates in the work of the Columbus/Newark area Service crew. Performs installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical equipment. Performs installation, maintenance, repair and trouble-shooting of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause and correct the problem. Inspect electrical systems and components to identify problems or the need for repair. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Performs high voltage terminations. Locates, plans, and carries out repair of system and component failures. May cut and weld steel structural members, using flame-cutting and welding equipment. Assesses and adjusts priorities and refocus efforts as needed to meet individual project requirements, workload, and program objectives. Ensures accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects. Maintain good safety record. Performs other duties as required. May be required to hold licenses.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of trouble shooting and testing electrical systems.
- Capability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to sell and maintain client relationships.
- Knowledge of installing, repairing and operating building electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
- Knowledge of operating electrical systems of various applications.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Knowledge of local and national regulatory electrical codes and requirements.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of safety precautions when operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
- Skill in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
- Skill in reading and evaluating electrical blueprints, panel layout sheets and other technical schematics.
- Skill in using analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.
- Skill in operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
- Positive attitude with a can-do mentality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, AND Journeyman Level Electrician Certification, or at least (4) years of Electrical experience. Crew Leader experience a plus. Qualifications will be decided by Claypool Electric, Inc.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. Will need to have availability to have flexibility in work schedule. Basic English language, math, reading and writing skills are required. This position requires the ability to work on-call and respond to emergency calls as needed. This position requires frequent exposure to hazardous work environments and working near high voltage, hazardous machinery, equipment and materials. Requires frequent travel to the jobsite and a valid driver license.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift heavy objects. This position also requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders.

Pay: $37.00 - $41.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
