Southern Development & Construction, Inc (SDC) is a leading heavy civil contractor based in Oviedo, Florida. Founded in 1994, SDC specializes in land clearing, earthwork, underground utility, grading, and paving for public and private clients in the Central Florida area. SDC maintains and operates an extensive fleet of modern, heavy equipment deployed by our experienced field crews, foreman and superintendents. SDC is seeking an EXPERIENCED A/P Specialist. The Individual must be a problem-solver, who works well in team surroundings, can take initiative, use good judgment and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency. Resourcefulness and attention to detail are extremely important.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 3 years of experience as a construction A/P Specialist or similar role.
- Experience with a large construction software such as Spectrum, Viewpoint or similar.
- Must have extensive experience with cost code structures
- Familiarity managing the PO process on a job basis
- Handling accounts payable for separate entities and vendors
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors
- Ensuring bills are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures
- Processing due invoices for payments
- Analyzing workflow processes
- Comparing purchase orders, prices, terms of payment and other charges
- Processing transactions and performing accounting duties such as account maintenance, recording entries and reconciling books of accounts
- Prefer working knowledge of lien process - NOC's, NTO's, lien releases.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required.
- Processing mail, copying, scanning, faxing, word processing, filing and file maintenance.
- Must be comfortable answering phones and solving issues with the suppliers and customers.
- Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
- Set-up and enter new vendors, track receipt of W9 forms and proof of liability insurance
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Accounting Manager or CFO.
- Experience with bank reconciliations and credit card statements a huge plus.
Required skills and qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Understanding of basic principles of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping
- Superb time management skills and detail orientation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and partner information
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to perform repetitive motions. The employee is occasionally required to stand of walk. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
