POSITION SUMMARY:
The Metabolomics/Lipidomics Scientist will have extensive experience in metabolite and/or small molecule analysis using LC/MS and LC/MS/MS platforms. The scientist will perform targeted and nontargeted bioanalysis and develop novel methods to support the platform.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the full spectrum of activities involved in metabolomics/lipidomics analysis as a member of the team including the following:

Conceptualize, perform, analyze and report experiments.

Perform mass spectrometry-based assays and studies focused on metabolite analysis of diverse samples from the biological matrices.

Laboratory analytical instrumentation routine maintenance.

Daily QA/QC, system suitability testing, method development and validated SOP implementation
-
Develop SOPs.
-
Manage external collaborations.
-
Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a M.S. (with 5+ years of experience) or Ph.D. (with 1+ years of experience) in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field in the analysis of small molecules and metabolites by mass spectrometry.

Broad understanding of metabolomics/lipidomics applications and biochemistry in the areas of systems biology, neurodegeneration, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is a plus.

Proven ability to troubleshoot common instrumentation-related issues, specifically for HPLC and MS systems.

Experience with common sample preparation techniques, including solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction and protein precipitation for biofluids, tissues and cells.

Deep understanding of core HPLC and MS concepts, including (but not limited to) principles of reversed-phase LC and HILIC, high-resolution/accurate mass strategies, structural elucidation by MS/MS, isotope dilution, isotopologue identification, multiply-charged ions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of technical and organizational skills.

Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping. Must demonstrate fully professional level requiring independent work in metabolomics research and development.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required for preparation of reports to management.

Ability to prepare manuscripts for presentation, publication in scientific journals, and regulatory requirements is preferred.
