Kennedy Fabricating, a highly diverse Custom Steel Fabricator located in Splendora, Texas is growing. We are looking for a Jr. Estimator to join our Dynamic Team!
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Prepare detailed estimates and pricing for highly diverse custom steel fabrication projects.
- Review all front end documents and specifications, seek clarification as appropriate, perform takeoff and price all materials (including paint/coating when applicable), identify and price outsourced items and estimate all labor hours.
- Manage and prioritize backlog of estimates to achieve best outcomes and meet bid deadlines.
- Constructively accept feedback from operations and continually strive to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency by working with Operations and Finance in variance analysis.
- Read and understand engineering notes and drawings prior to doing a material take off to find construction specifications, coating requirements and various weld standards
- Accurately communicate to manager or customer what information is missing in order to complete bids
- Sufficient shop knowledge to confidently meet with fabrication supervisors to discuss labor for new projects and in analyzing labor variance on historical performance
- Meet with department manager or upper management upon completion of bid for review
General Requirements:
- Prefer minimum of 4 years’ experience in steel fabrication estimating
- Must have work schedule flexibility to meet project deadlines as needed
- Prefer experience with structural steel, but also industrial fabrication of process piping, modular skids, ASME pressure vessels and blasting/painting
- Previous experience in estimating commercial or industrial projects would be ideal
- Experience operating within a highly detailed Quality Management System such as API, AISC, or ASME
- Desire to constantly learn and grow to have the ability to bid all forms of structural steel fabrication
- Must be able to independently multi task and work in a fast paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Confident in experience level to make judgement calls based on well-reasoned analysis
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Applicant must be very proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, in particular Excel, and be able to operate with speed and accuracy
- Currently possess ability to legally work in the USA
