Pinewood Concepts in Kennebunk, ME, a residential construction company specializing in complex renovations that incorporate sustainable materials and modern techniques, is seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our team. Our mission is to provide exceptional remodeling services using a collaborative team of hardworking craftspeople skilled in carpentry, communication, and building science.
Lead Carpenter Position
Pinewood Concepts is looking for a skilled Lead Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, significant experience as a Lead Carpenter, expertise in residential construction practices, and the managerial skills to actively manage and supervise all jobsite crew members, including subcontractors. The position is full-time (36 to 40 hours per week), year-round, as an employee of Pinewood Concepts. The pay rate is $25 - $35 per hour, depending on experience. Worksites are generally within 25 miles of Portland, ME, with occasional travel up to 60 miles for specific projects. The typical workday is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. Benefits include 6 paid holidays, 5 paid vacation days, and $200 per year for tool purchases. Pinewood Concepts job sites are tobacco and alcohol-free.
Responsibilities:
· Provide leadership to ensure that the crew is working together efficiently toward defined project goals.
· Ensure that all crew members understand which job cost code to track time against on timesheets, and review crew timesheets on a weekly basis to check for accuracy.
· Facilitate a 2-5 min. crew meeting at the end of each day to answer questions and make sure time is accurately tracked.
· Coordinate with subcontractors to make sure they show up when needed, have the necessary on-site support, and are informed promptly of any schedule changes.
· Prepare the job site for subcontractors.
· Run projects with a total annual revenue of $600,000 to $800,000.
· Work with Project Manager or Production Manager to make sure special orders arrive on time and are installed properly.
· Notify Project Manager or Production Manager when client requests a change so that paperwork can be presented to client for signature prior to starting additional work.
· Work with Project Manager or Production Manager to understand budget and hold to it.
· Work with Project Manager or Production Manager to understand schedule, update it, hold to it, and communicate clearly and in a timely fashion any anticipated delays in completion date, and reasons for delays.
· Schedule and oversee required building inspections
· Coordinate with Production Manager to schedule crew efficiently across all ongoing projects.
· Submit coded receipts to the office in a reliable and timely fashion.
· Ensure completion of all punch list and job close-out tasks.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Set a positive example for the jobsite team by actively supporting everyone on the crew, regardless of skill level, and never openly criticizing other members of the project team.
- Consistently arrive at the jobsite on time, work within daily start and stop times, and take breaks and lunch with the crew.
- Organize workday and workflow to minimize overtime.
- Take initiative to solve project problems and maintain high standards.
- Keep the jobsite stocked with required materials with three or fewer supplier trips per week.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized jobsite and ensure personal, jobsite, and crew safety.
- Ensure good communication and prompt response to calls/texts/emails from others on the project team.
· Respond to client requests quickly and professionally and solicit Project Manager, Production Manager, or Architect help with those requests if needed.

Carpentry Skills:
- Operation of all required tools safely and efficiently.
- Setup, usage, and safety monitoring of all ladder, scaffold, and harness equipment.
- Accurate sill layout.
- Layout and execution of level, plumb, and square wall framing, floor framing, and all but the most complicated roof framing.
- Application of sheathing and weather-resistive barriers (WRB).
- Application of various types of roofing underlayment.
- Roofing activities include valleys, edge and ridge cap, and prep for gutters.
- Window, skylight, and exterior door installation and flashing procedures.
- Air-sealing methods.
- Execution of all phases of exterior siding and trim.
- Deck lay-out and installation.
- Strapping and blocking installation.
- Cutting and installation of rough and finished stairs alongside a Lead Carpenter.
- Execution of all phases of interior trim installation.
- Hanging kitchen cabinets, including managing layout, leveling, troubleshooting, and room discrepancies.
- Creation of basic to mid-level material lists for framing, sheathing, and trim.
- Ability to provide sequential instructions to Apprentices within company protocol.
