GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: Aligns the company shipping needs with the most optimal carriers, ensuring load quality with compliance, and efficiency of delivery. The Transportation Manager is a relational problem solver and rational decision maker. They play an intricate part in determining movement of products to the customer and will partner heavily with the Warehouse Manager and Warehouse Supervisor to optimize the operational flow between production and quality departments based on daily & weekly goals. They will leverage carrier relationships in identifying and solving the most efficient and cost-effective means of moving non-standard, industrial equipment domestically and internationally, making compliant decisions under pressure.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Maintain customer relations and communicate with contract carriers to ensure on time delivery.
Daily management and coordination of shipments.
Establish and coordinate schedule with carriers.
Establish and confirm rates with carriers.
Ensure the proper mode and size of carrier is appropriate for the material to be shipped.
Assist in the maintenance of records on the destination, weight and charges on all incoming and outgoing freight.
Provide hands-on support for loading trucks efficiently and packaging exposed product for safe transport.
Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Manager.
Keep work area neat and clean.
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management or similar field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 2 to 5 years experience in transportation management. Experience with freight brokering, negotiation, Global Trade Compliance regulation and State/Federal transportation regulations. Some supervisory experience is preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to identify and solve the most efficient and cost-effective means of moving non-standard, industrial equipment, domestically and internationally. Capable and effective at creating and sustaining internal relationships between company departments. Ability to make compliance decisions under pressure. Maintain customer relations and communicate with contract carriers. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal office environment; ability to walk around making observations on equipment in the shop and in the field.
EQUIPMENT: PC, phone, fax, copier, and other normal office equipment as needed.
