Summary
The General Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing various aspects of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), including revenue growth, cost management, and ensuring environmental safety and operational excellence. They will effectively manage the day-to-day operations and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the assigned facility.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise the performance of operations and maintenance managers.
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance activities to meet performance standards and productivity metrics.
- Assume full responsibility for the Profit and Loss (P&L) of the Material Recovery Facility and Transfer Station, encompassing revenue growth, cost management, compliance, personnel development, capital projects, and budgeting.
- Lead a team of over 100 employees across MSW (Mixed Solid Waste) Processing, Transfer Station, Transportation, and Maintenance.
- Optimize workflow, staffing levels, and equipment utilization to achieve production and financial objectives.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities for staff, communicate goals and expectations effectively, and offer performance feedback.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Federal, State, OSHA, and local regulations.
- Conduct scheduled operations meetings with the Leadership Team.
- Review and analyze monthly financial and operational results with the Board of Directors and Executive Team.
- Develop annual operating budgets, including revenue projections, cost forecasts, and capital projects.
- Manage sales of commodities, focusing on quality, competitive pricing, and material movement.
- Foster effective communication with vendors, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest equipment and technology in Waste and Recycling operations.
- Implement training programs to enhance workforce skills and capabilities.
- Participate in the recruitment process to hire qualified personnel.
- Establish safety procedures to safeguard employees, customers, and visitors.
- Promote a safe and dynamic work environment through feedback and recognition initiatives.
- Ensure facility cleanliness and maintenance through inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (Engineering preferred).
- 7 to 10 years of management experience.
- Experience in managing a manufacturing operation with mechanical and processing equipment.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, dust control, and relevant state and federal regulations.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
- Ability to engage with the general public, regulatory agencies, and political contacts.
- Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.

- Previous experience in the waste-recycling industry or industrial/manufacturing environments.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year
