School Year: Monday - Friday, 3:15 PM - 7:15 PM, and Saturday from 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM

About Us:
Row New York is a unique sports-based non-profit organization founded on the premise that the discipline and teamwork that rowing instills, when combined with rigorous academic support, has the power to change lives. At full capacity, our Youth Program serves over 250 high school student-athletes from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is a high dosage, year-round rowing and academic program with a goal of ensuring that 100% of our young people graduate high school and matriculate to college or begin an alternative post-secondary plan. In addition, we offer rowing to New Yorkers of all ages who are either people with physical or cognitive disabilities, military veterans, or local community members. Lastly, Row New York offers summer camps and a fee-for-service rowing program for New York City independent high schools. Our programs are offered at two rowing sites: Upper Manhattan and Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Position Summary:
Row New York seeks a responsible and reliable van driver to transport youth participants within Flushing, Queens, using a Row New York vehicle. Each afternoon, the driver will retrieve the van from the boathouse and then meet our youth rowing participants at the 71st Avenue Station stop in Forest Hills, proceed to Forest Hills High School, then to the Mets-Willets subway pickup (located across the boardwalk in Flushing Meadows Corona Park), and transport the athletes to our boathouse. Later in the evening after practice, the driver will return participants to the same locations and then return the vehicle to the boathouse. There may be multiple van runs between the subway stations and the boathouse throughout the work shift.
Candidates must be available during the school year from Monday - Friday, 3:15 PM to 7:15 PM, and on Saturday mornings from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Following the planned van route and schedule for departure times and stops
- Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensuring passenger safety at all times
- Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
- Monitoring fuel consumption and refilling vehicles as needed using funds provided by Row New York; running other rowing support related errands as needed
- Inspecting the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip; maintaining a clean vehicle
- Modeling exemplary behavior and professionalism at all times
Qualifications:
- Must have been a licensed driver for at least 2 years with experience driving in NYC; professional driving experience a plus
- Valid NY driver’s license and clean driving record
- Skilled, attentive driver who demonstrates safe driving at all times
- Experience driving a large passenger van strongly preferred
- Punctual, reliable, and responsible
- Professional demeanor and customer service oriented attitude
- Enjoys interacting with young people; experience working with youth a plus
