POSITION DESCRIPTION
An Onsite Environmental Specialist at SET Environmental is responsible to:
- Handle, package, transport and dispose of hazardous laboratory chemicals generated from various laboratory and industrial processes
- Prepare regulatory paperwork to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and internal procedures
- Waste characterization, sampling, and profiling of waste streams
- Support lab chemical purges
- Support outgoing shipments to SET and other established disposal facilities
- Housekeeping in waste area to include daily inspections
- Support compliance with DOT and RCRA requirements in 90-day waste storage area
- Operate a forklift to move drums and bulk waste containers and to load trucks for outgoing waste shipments
- Operate a pickup truck to transport equipment and waste containers across the site
- Consolidate non-halogenated solvent and lubricant oil waste streams into drums
- Backfill support of the on-site Waste Coordinator as needed
- Miscellaneous tasks on demand
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-oriented field (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or similar subject matter)
- Experience in the hazardous waste industry preferred
- Obtain and keep current all certifications/licenses required (i.e., 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification)
- Must be highly motivated with strong problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Working knowledge of RCRA, TSCA, and DOT
- Ability to work in outdoor, non-climate-controlled environments
- Ability to wear chemical protective clothing and full-face air purifying respirator
