ION is searching for an early career Research Engineer to develop our new technologies from lab to pilot scale and when required support our engineering teams currently involved in designing large scale commercial CO2 capture facilities worldwide. Position Summary
The Research Engineer provides input to and performs activities related to the R&D trajectory of development, such as design, implementation, and maintenance of new process methods and controls for ION proprietary technology solutions related to CO2 capture. This position provides quality, safety, and innovation in support of the commercialization path of products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with pilot commissioning, operations, troubleshooting and reporting.

Works with the ION R&D team to design, assemble, commission, and operate prototype devices and process units.

Thoroughly explores process options and continuously implements procedures that optimize quality, automation, and efficiency.

Documents process methodology, controls, and quality standards.

Identifies performance standards and proactively provides expertise in solving complex technical problems.

Analyzes, interprets, and documents data through graphs, charts, and reports.

Presents findings and new ideas/plans through oral and written reports, presentations, and/or project proposals.

Complies with standards for safety, quality, and productivity.

Takes direction from the ION CTO and the Director of Advanced Engineering, refines R&D project scope and objectives and ensures R&D project execution is in alignment with goals.

Proactively works to resolve issues and effectively escalates to the appropriate person when necessary. Professionally interacts with other ION team members to facilitate swift resolution of issues.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering

Practical process-related laboratory experience and/or field pilot plant campaigns

Understanding of process modelling and design tools is preferred

Excellent ability to quickly assess problems and formulate strategies to overcome issues

Solid understanding of methods and techniques used in CO2 capture from flue gas, industrial process gas and/or gas sweetening or similar gas-liquid interaction processes

Affinity for the design, assembly, and operation/optimization of industrial (bench and pilot) plant(s), including compatibility of materials of construction with chemical solvents

Detail oriented with exceptional analytical skills

Proactive nature; stays abreast of advancements in technologies, engineering standards, regulations, etc.

A sense of urgency in their work and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively describe responsibilities, offer constructive feedback, and to support and encourage others

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate/translate complex technical information into meaningful information for management

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment with a well-equipped laboratory and may entail travel to and work in industrial settings at refineries and power stations during R&D campaigns. The job requires an individual to routinely use standard office equipment, oversee lab work and travel domestic and international. At times it is required to work remotely on-site of a client.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position working standard business hours. This position may require the flexibility to work diverse schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. On occasions this position requires travel, including opportunities for working internationally for extended periods of time.
