Job Summary:
Works under the direct supervision of a General Foreman & Superintendent. Leads a crew in performing the numerous duties including construction, maintenance and repair of overhead & underground distribution lines and related facilities, service work and other related and assigned duties. Trains apprentices in the functions of linework.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Reporting injuries, incidents and near misses to Safety Supervisor and Manager.
- Communicates with customers, property owners, general public, other contractors, utility representatives, and government agencies.
- Maintain and track production.
- Maintain and track department employees working hours.
- Ensure daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment.
- Maintain company equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Weather permitting, this is a minimum 40 hour per week job
Basic Qualifications and Work Experience
- 4 or more yrs. experience in overhead & underground distribution experience
- Commercial Driver’s License Class A is a must. Must have clean Driving record
- Successful completion of a Lineman apprentice program and possession of a valid card or certificate of Journeyman
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass a drug test
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must pass all skills testing @ Orientation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knows, understands and applies all OSHA regulations.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret staking sheets and maps on a daily basis.
- Ability to operate a bucket truck, boom digger, trencher, backhoe and other various equipment as required on the job.
- Must carry valid CPR/first aid certification.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Journeyman Lineman will occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. Carrying up to 50 lbs. is done occasionally when carrying equipment from truck to work site. When doing pole work or moving a transformer, it may be necessary to push and pull approximately 150 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ninety percent (90%) of the Journeyman Lineman's work is done outdoors under constant adverse weather conditions from -20*F to 110*F. Noise level is frequently 100-120 decibels and sometimes above.
