Summary:
This position oversees and participates equally in the daily operation of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department, including but not limited to emergent and non-emergent treatment and transportation of patients, maintenance and operation of vehicles, equipment and EMS stations. The Shift Supervisors report to and receive oversight from the Lead Supervisor. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating, scheduling and even staffing Public Relations events and public relations, as well as processing accounts payables and insuring and documenting their accuracy. The person in this position manages special projects and coordinates activities and information with the other supervisors.
Responsibilities:
(60%)* Performs emergent and non-emergent treatment and transports pre-hospital patients. Performs the necessary treatment to stabilize the patient and then ensures and performs safe transportation to more definitive care.
(20%)* Administers paperwork for daily and long-term operations. Assists manager in preparing budget for capital expenditures. Appraises, counsels, and disciplines employees when necessary. Processes time cards and schedules work shifts. Prepares and administers job performance reviews for direct reports. Provides direction for EMS staff growth and development, as well as department-wide employee engagement.
(10%)* Triages multiple patients with multiple injuries to provide efficient care with limited resources.
(10%)* Compiles reports and documentation of patient care for medical, legal and billing purposes. Assists manager in hiring new employees. Maintains petty cash box.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules and performs public relation presentations, demonstrations, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), hunter's safety, tot tour, and health awareness classes as directed. Orients new employees.

Employees who hold this position, hire or transfer in to this position will have 1 year to achieve this certification and will be required to maintain it based on the certification renewal period.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of emergency medicine as normally acquired through 2 years emergency education culminating in licensure as a paramedic and 4 years field experience.
Hazardous Materials Management.
Organizational skills needed to prioritize daily workload and disseminate job duties.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Geographical skills needed to access emergency locations.
Excellent driving skills for operation of emergency vehicles.
Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be done annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Very Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry over 100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) over 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) over 20 lbs.
