The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Park Maintenance Supervisor in the Parks and Recreation Department. The employee performs difficult skilled work supervising public service workers and other personnel engaged in general maintenance repair work. Employee has intermediate supervisory responsibilities; organizes, schedules, and assigns work activity. Perform training to ensure individuals have all the requisite skills. Does related work as required. This position is responsible for supervisory work that involves planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, reviewing, and participating in the work of semiskilled or unskilled workers and operators responsible for providing construction, maintenance, repair services and activities for assigned areas, parks, athletic fields and facilities. Areas of work and standards to be met are assigned in detail by the Park Services Manager, and the work performed is checked in process and upon completion.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in municipal park service maintenance, irrigation and construction projects; general knowledge of the street, water and sewer systems for the City including location and size of mains, hydrants and valves; thorough knowledge of other special areas assigned; knowledge of turf grass (artificial and natural) maintenance methods; knowledge of aquatics maintenance methods; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; dependability; ability to deal courteously with users of public facilities; ability to make analysis of maintenance and custodial problems; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software for preparation of reports and work related documents.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED and considerable experience as a skilled worker in construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal park grounds and facilities including four (4) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. CPR and First Aid certification. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
