This is an opportunity for an ambitious, detail-oriented, and reliable nanoparticle chemist with excellent communication skills to work at a cutting-edge biotech company as a full-time Senior Scientist. This position reports directly to the Chief Scientific Officer. Primary responsibilities include:
· Design, synthesis, and characterization of dextran-coated iron oxide and lipid nanoparticles
· Functionalization and characterization of nanoparticles coupled to nucleic acids, proteins, peptides, and fluorophores
· Creation of technical presentations to be shared within R&D, internal stakeholders, suppliers and business partners.
· Maintenance of a safe and organized lab in a GLP/GMP environment.
· Collaboration with a diverse team that includes chemists, engineers, customers representatives, quality specialists, and production engineers
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
· Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, or Nanoscience
· Extensive experience synthesizing and characterizing nanoparticle materials
· Demonstrated independence in successfully completing projects, either individually or within collaborations or research groups
· Proven experience in planning, executing, and documenting a set of activities or tasks in a timely manner
· Demonstrated effective communication, both written and verbally, within core research group and to an outside audience
· Participation in safety initiatives and have a strong dedication to a safety-first culture
· Post-doctoral or industrial experience in designing, synthesizing, and characterizing iron oxide and lipid nanoparticles
· Strong ability to design, execute, and analyze experiments that elucidate key function, mechanisms, or properties of nanoparticle (both bulk and surface properties)
· Understanding of basic cell and molecular biology
· Understanding of cancer biology
· Understanding of structure-activity relationships around particle properties, including bulk and surface, and final product application
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Develop, validate, and document assays and methods of analysis
· Summarize and report data and method development efforts and present work in collaborative meetings
· Manage the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation in the lab
· Strong communication skills – able to easily communicate with peers, research associates, and non-technical collaborators both written and in presentation formats
· Demonstrated collaboration with team members of different levels or career stages
· Perform additional laboratory duties as required to support R&D and company projects
Work Location:
· Our facility is located in Newton, MA. Most of the work week is on-site with a remote option available at times. We use Microsoft Teams much of the time for meetings, calls, messaging and other purposes.
Salary and Benefits
· Salary commensurate with experience. The company offers: 3 weeks paid vacation, 11 paid holidays, is generally off for the days from Christmas through New Year’s Day, sick days, health and dental insurance, and stock option program.
