Program Director-Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Medical Training Institute of New York seeks a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director/Instructor for its Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program in New York. MTI of New York offers a variety of entry-level training for aspiring healthcare professionals.
DMS Program Director Develops and coordinates a comprehensive plan that reflects and supports the MTI of New York's mission, values and strategic plan, national and state practice standards, and regulatory recommendations. The Program Director works collaboratively with MTI of New York Director of Academic Affairs and all Diagnostic Medical Sonography Department Instructors to coordinate and teach new Diagnostic Medical Sonography Programs, both didactic and clinical, Clinical Internships and competencies.
Provides leadership and administration in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the philosophy, outcomes, policies, and curricular components of the Sonography program:
- Development and implementation of the program’s curriculum and Syllabus
- Preparation and management of the program’s budget
- Assists in the acquisition of clinical training site
- Assists in faculty development
- Assist in Program Accreditations through Accreditation agencies
Responsibilities:
The following essential functions apply both to a traditional and distance education-learning environment:
- Coordinates all content and student learning experiences within the curriculum.
- Develops and maintains a master plan for all content and experiences in the curriculum.
- Supervises appropriate revisions in all course materials and experiences based on curricular changes, refinements, and course evaluations.
- Monitors curricular effectiveness.
- Collaborates with the Director of Academic Affairs regarding the curricular direction of the Sonography program.
- Collaborates with the Director of Academic Affairs and faculty in developing student and academic policies for the MTI of New York.
- Utilizes objective data to assess the effectiveness of curriculum design.
- Ensures compliance with accreditation standards and requirements affecting Sonography education.
- Assumes an active role in accreditation activities.
- Guides faculty in developing course materials.
- Ensures regular meetings of the faculty course leads to facilitate communication and faculty participation in planning, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum
- Selects and makes hiring recommendations for instructional staff
- Provides regular supervision and evaluation of instructional staff
- Assists in the acquisition of clinical training site
- Maintains continuous liaison with all clinical sites to ensure site compliance with the program’s learning objectives
- Assists with maintaining continuous accreditation of the program with all relevant accrediting bodies and governmental entities
- Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development
- Serves as a member on the school’s Oversight Committee, Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee, Faculty Committee, and the Program’s Advisory Board and Program Committee
- Assists in the recruitment of students
- Evaluate the applicant’s application packet
- Interviews applicants
- Routinely reviews student attendance and participation in both the didactic and clinical components.
- Routinely reviews each student’s performance to assess student progress toward completion of the program and variance from planned academic progress.
- Provides academic counseling to students
- Develops academic remediation plans for students failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress and who may be at risk of academic probation and/or termination
- Reviews and revises curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and secondary teaching material
- Exercises continuous assessment and revisions, if necessary, to the academic assessment system, both didactic and clinical
- Teaches courses in the program
- Ensures timely execution of all assessment tools related to students’ didactic & clinical performance
- Evaluates instructional staff teaching activities
- Evaluates all primary and secondary teaching materials used in the course
- Evaluate all library holdings and make recommendations for new electronic and/or hard-copy holdings
- Updates, maintains and analyzes program effectiveness
- Participates in resource planning
Clinical Coordination:
- Selects and approves appropriate clinical sites.
- Provides orientation for the on-site supervisor.
- Provides oversight of the clinical experience.
- Ensures appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the clinical experience.
Education:
- Completion of an approved Baccalaureate Degree program. Bachelor’s Degree in sonography or related healthcare field in good standing in sonography.
- A Master’s degree in a related healthcare field or in education is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in the field. AART or ARDMS certified, preferably both.
Years of Experience:
- Experience of at least three (2) years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of one (1) in a healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by Sonographers
- A minimum of two (2) years of sonographer experience is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching and/or leadership experience preferred
- Certification in a related specialty and/or related program area and professional development certification is preferred.
- Possess exemplary communication, collaboration, and customer service skills—time management skills required to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Demonstrated success in consultation, leadership, and the ability to catalyze change.
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, Students, staff, instructors, and public and external agencies to achieve department and organization mission, goals, and objectives.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Experience of at least one (1) year teaching experience in post-secondary and/or vocational/technical education.
- Possess the ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, problem solve, and make appropriate decisions in a timely fashion.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge of educational theory and techniques. Demonstrates ability to develop and implement curricular strategies and to incorporate effective management techniques and current knowledge of regulatory guidelines. Effective communication skills.
Licenses, Registrations &/or Certifications:
Credentialed in good standing in sonography by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and AART
