Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares estimates and issues proposals for Earth Work services after reviewing design documents, drawings, specifications, and completing quantity take-offs
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Maintains strict adherence to company standards as related to estimating and project management
- Solicits, qualifies and negotiates quotes with various vendors in an effort to obtain the most economical cost for supplies, equipment and sub-contractor labor
- Solicits work from repeat clients as well as aid in the sales effort to bring in new business
- Tracks and organizes schedule durations/productions on all projects to develop historical data for future use
- Analyzes the success of projects upon completion and identifies methods and strategies for future estimating or execution improvement.
- Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
- Transitions awarded projects to project management and accounting by creating budgets, schedule of values, schedules, and conducting "hand off" meetings to other team members, etc.
- Prepare initial job notes for new projects for Project Management and the Field (Estimate, proposal, scope, requirements, bid assumptions, schedules, vendor quotes, specifications, correspondence, promises made, etc.).
- Plays a major role in pre-construction/constructability review planning activities for awarded projects as well as budgets.
- Contributes to implementing standards and best practices aimed at increasing efficiency
- Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures
- Undertakes a variety of Earth work estimating and Earth work project management assignments as required to help the division grow and improve.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed by Chief Estimator
Requirements:
- High degree of Earth Work construction knowledge and analytical skill
- Knowledge of construction cost estimating techniques, procedures, and practices, including material quantity take-offs, labor unit work hours, labor rate analysis, and material unit pricing
- Proven ability to read and understand project plans and specifications
- Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work well under tight deadline pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
- Experience processing moderate to high volume of bids
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Advanced PC skills, specifically in a Windows environment, including collecting and analyzing data in Excel, and creating documents and preparing correspondence in Outlook and Word.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks, with an emphasis on thoroughness, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Must be able to provide minimum of two excellent business references
