R&D Engineer, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Research & Development. In this role, you will spearhead technical programs aimed at developing cutting-edge flexible packaging products and technologies for global brands. Located at our corporate headquarters in Hartsville, SC, this position offers significant growth opportunities based on your experience and business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to define technical objectives for new product developments.
- Lead technical initiatives to innovate flexible packaging structures, capabilities, and technology advancements.
- Direct and oversee pilot, production, and packaging trials, ensuring seamless execution.
- Engage with business leaders and clients to communicate development progress and address specific project needs.
- Coordinate activities efficiently, leveraging internal and external resources to achieve project milestones.
- Stay abreast of the latest material and process developments, fostering knowledge sharing within the organization.
- Develop expertise in key focus areas, acting as an internal consultant for strategic initiatives.
- Prepare comprehensive written and verbal presentations, project plans, updates, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Travel to collaborate with suppliers, attend conferences and engage with innovation partners.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Science, Packaging, or related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in Product Development or Manufacturing, ideally within blown film production, extrusion coating and laminating, printing (roto/flexo), pouching, and form/fill/seal conversion.
- Deep understanding of material science, encompassing OPP, PET, PE, Nylon, paper, and foil.
- Proven track record in new product development and packaging applications.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, manage time and budget effectively.
- Exceptional technical writing and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with blown film production, extrusion coating, and extrusion lamination processes.
- Experience in retail confection, bakery, snack, coffee, frozen food, beverage, thermally processed, or personal care markets is advantageous.

Pay: $72,328.70 - $115,414.11 per year
