**Position Summary:**
The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for steel fabrication and erection projects. This role requires a detailed understanding of project specifications, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure that all estimates are precise and align with client expectations and industry standards.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the estimate.
- Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labor expenses.
- Prepare estimates for all phases of steel fabrication and erection, including material costs, labor costs, and equipment usage.
- Conduct site visits as necessary to gather essential information for estimates.
- Prepare and present detailed project proposals and bids.
- Maintain a database of historical data to use in future estimates.
- Monitor and analyze industry trends and competitor pricing to maintain competitive advantage.
- Review and validate subcontractor and vendor quotes and proposals.
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to gather and clarify project details.
- Participate in post-project reviews to refine estimating processes and improve accuracy.
**Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating within the steel fabrication and erection industry.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and costs associated with steel fabrication and erection.
- Proficient in estimating software
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience with government contracting and knowledge of prevailing wage laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
