Job Title: Protestant Chaplain Services
Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Protestant Chaplain to oversee and enhance the Protestant Community Religious Activities at the Armed Forces Retirement Home - Washington (AFRH-W). The Chaplain will provide essential spiritual support in alignment with AFRH-W’s policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage Protestant religious programs in accordance with AFRH-W Instructions and SOPs.
- Maintain endorsement by their faith group.
- Provide spiritual and pastoral care, respecting the Veterans' choice and consent.
- Commit to a 40-hour workweek, from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday.
- Lead Sunday worship services.
- Perform regular pastoral visits to AFRH Residents, integrating into the broader pastoral support program.
- Conduct sacraments and rites such as communion, baptism, marriage, and funeral services, following faith group procedures.
- Offer pastoral counseling to Residents, staff, and family members as required.
- Support Residents' spiritual needs, including those in external treatment settings.
- Deliver holistic care that addresses the physical, mental, environmental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of the individual.
- Ensure Residents have access to care in various settings and programs.
- Extend spiritual and pastoral support to Residents' family members when necessary.
- Plan and lead religious services, including special events like Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Christmas, and Easter, ensuring these are inclusive and non-denominational.
- Uphold the visions and goals of AFRH-W pastoral care as outlined in the SOPs.
- Maintain a current ecclesiastical endorsement throughout employment.
- Follow the Chaplains' dress code during duty hours, which includes clerical dress for men or appropriate business attire for women.
- Set up religious facilities and equipment for services, assisting other Chaplains or volunteers as needed.
- Submit supply requests and necessary forms to the AFRH-W Resident Services Office and Chief, Resident Services.
- Organize and disseminate devotional and educational materials as supported by the Chaplains' Office.
Qualifications:
- Ordained Protestant minister in good standing with verifiable references.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an independent pastor of a congregation.
- At least 5 years of experience working with a geriatric population in a residential or healthcare setting.
Schedule:
- Full-time: 40 hours per week, from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM EST.
