Mechanical Engineer- Vehicle Systems
Direct Hire opportunity with a global company that designs and manufactures seismic vehicles and other seismic data
acquisition systems. The U.S. headquarters is based in SW Houston and supports a large portfolio of businesses across various industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support vehicles engineering team by performing these job functions:
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design key mechanical systems that include hydraulics, mobile machinery frames, engine packages, cooling systems, HVAC, etc.
- Test the design concept by computerized modelling or physical hands-on testing of models.
- Design, develop, and test all aspects of structural mechanical, powertrain, thermal, pneumatic and hydraulic components, and systems incorporated into the Inova vibrator product line.
- Must excel in identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
- Developing test plans and performing test engineering functions of new prototype machines and current production vehicles.
- Produce detailed specifications using dedicated software tools to produce specifications, including parts lists and costings.
- Supports in the identification of new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships; plans for integration into future products.
- Performs sustaining activities to support existing equipment in the field.
- Produce a full manufacturing specification package including engineering BOMs.
- Complete all engineering documentation including but not limited to Engineering Change Notifications (ECN’s) and New Part Number Requests (NPR’s)
- Perform project management reporting tasks.
- Meet with internal clients to establish the design brief: including the concept, performance and production criteria.
- Arrange meetings and liaisons with engineers and other stakeholders to discuss design concepts. Participate in specialist or multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Work within a team to develop in real-time ideas and design concepts using Autodesk Inventor software.
- Identify the suitability and availability of materials for prototyping, engineering builds, alternatives for supply chain shortages and manufacturing variants.
- Occasionally travel to engineering and production facilities.
- Writes clearly and informatively; edits spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information.
- Make presentations as required.
- Write and implement engineering processes and procedures.
- Work in accordance with all legislation and company policy requirements pertaining to employee safety, health and wellness.
Required Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree- Mechanical Engineering discipline
- Computer Assisted Design software degree or diploma.
- 5 years minimum of work experience in Engineering (but prefer 10 years’ experience)
- 5 years field experience as engineer, technician or technical support for seismic vibrators
- Working knowledge of Pelton/INOVA seismic vibrator controllers.
- Working knowledge of Verif-i Seismic Vibrator QC hardware and software
- Relevant product design and support experience with heavy industrial mobile equipment in the construction, mining, agriculture, forestry, military or seismic industries is preferred
