Job Summary: The Medical Assistant will work directly with the physician and the physician’s nurse as a team to ensure higher efficiency, patient care, and workflow for their patients.
Responsibilities/Expectations:
Direct and consistent communication with your nurse and doctor is key.
· Room Patients- Vitals on every patient, documenting in chart & reviewing area needed to have pt ready when Dr walks in the room. Also ensuring exam room is set up ready for Dr’s exam.
- Give injections & documenting in chart
- Order labs, pathology & paps according to dr direction. Making sure they are sent to the correct labs
- Filling out requisitions & sending to appropriate couriers & labs. Making sure they are ordered in the system & tied to results
- Phone calls pts, answer questions, give advice & go between Drs & Pts when needed
- Call pts with test results after Dr has signed off & approved
- Counsel patients on medications, lab results, genetic testing options & pregnancy
- Send prescriptions via eRX, fax or call in
- Following up on labs results, sonograms & mammograms with no results according to Dr protocol
- Hooking pt up to the NST machines & making sure Dr is aware of them & they are being followed until the appropriate time to take them off
- Obtain Prior Authorizations for medications
- Stocking exam rooms & bathrooms on hall and/or putting away supplies
- Calling pt ticklers/reminding pts they need to schedule appts if required by your doctor.
- Preload sonograms for next day.
- Fold laundry & clean instruments.
· Schedule appointments and ultrasounds in conjunction with the office visits for specific appointments and times as determined by your physician.
· Send patient cases through Athena to check OB and IUD benefits after scheduling the patient for OBWU or IUD.
· Schedule patient for screening mammogram here or print orders for patient to schedule on their own.
· Check out patients as well and schedule them for the next visit as physician note dictates.
· Help check refill line and triage clinical inbox as needed when triage nurse is out of office.
· Learn to perform DEXAs.
- Helping other MAs or floats as time allows & if your Dr is out of office
- Following any & all directions given by Dr and/or supervisors
MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
· Experience as an M.A. in an OB/GYN office
· Experience in customer service and/or office setting is required.
· Experience and knowledge of MS Office and Athena is required.
· Excellent oral and written skills in English
· Strong communication and people skills
· Excellent common sense and reasoning skills
· Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities
· Problem-solving skills
· Be able/willing to take & follow instruction.
· Education: High School Diploma is required.
· Additional education and/or training is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37,440.00 - $45,750.00 per year
