Position Overview:
The Blending Supervisor oversees the entire blending operation within a food manufacturing setting, ensuring the seamless creation of product mixes according to precise recipes and quality standards. This role is critical in managing the blending process from ingredient preparation to final product readiness, maintaining the highest levels of food safety and efficiency. The Blending Supervisor coordinates with various departments, leads a team of operators, and ensures that all equipment is operated correctly and safely. They are responsible for scheduling, resource allocation, and compliance with all relevant regulations. Their goal is to ensure that blending operations contribute to overall production targets while upholding the integrity and quality of the food products.
Responsibilities, Skills, and Experience:
- Open the facility for the shift, coordinating early arrival procedures and floor readiness.
- Obtain and verify necessary paperwork and operational plans from the production office.
- Supervise staff attendance and coordinate with management on personnel issues. Provide recommendations and input into the employee evaluation and disciplinary processes.
- Plan daily operations with team leads, ensuring material readiness and efficient job assignment rotations.
- Enforce company policies, handle time-off requests, and ensure proper timekeeping.
- Conduct GMP checklists and ensure adherence to safety and quality protocols.
- Manage accurate completion of production logs and reports, including verification of blended quantities.
- Ensure each product is being made safely and accurately based on blending procedures.
- Verify the weight of incoming products and verify the yield of each finished product.
- Oversee equipment sanitation and coordinate pre-operation checks with the QC department.
- Ensure department employees adhere to the break and lunch schedules. Allocate and adjust labor and resources in response to production needs, break schedules, and unexpected changes.
- Respond to incidents by documenting and taking appropriate actions.
- Review end-of-shift paperwork, maintain accurate records, and communicate any issues to relevant managers.
- Coach and train employees on operational procedures, safety practices, and team collaboration.
- Oversee inventory controls, product storage, waste management, and maintenance of a clean work environment.
- Liaise with QC for product holds and validations, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
- Delegate tasks to optimize productivity during downtime and ensure all necessary supplies are available.
- Conduct regular inventory and maintenance of tools and personal protective equipment.
- Coordinate with Production Manager on production schedule
- Keep track of group attendance daily; identify non-conformance and make corrections, as necessary.
- Minimize waste and cost and ensure conformance to safety and quality standards.
- Understand and follow lot tracking for traceability.
- Ensure production paperwork is being filled out properly.
- Verify the yield per lot number.
- Know how to operate machinery within the blending department.
- Know how to read production paperwork to determine blending needs per product.
- Perform Food Safety & Food Security duties within the Position of Blending Supervisor and by serving in the following roles:
- HACCP Team Member
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within a blending or manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership abilities and excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in time management and multitasking.
- Adept in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with standard industry equipment and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of GMPs and food safety standards.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and job duties.
- Food industry experience
- Bilingual in Spanish & English
Other Duties:
- Follow food safety and quality protocols.
- Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping and safe work practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment.
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Availability to work different shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
