We are an established, family-owned bridge/highway contractor based on the north shore of MA. We work primarily for Departments of Transportation, and specialize in bridge maintenance, abrasive blasting, and protective coatings. We are seeking a reliable, diligent, and self-starting individual to join our staff as a Safety Manager.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for development and enforcement of the overall safety procedures at multiple project sites within MA region. The Safety Manager will:
- Act as the bridge between the office management team and field operations to foster and promote a productive safety culture based on positivity, teamwork, and enthusiasm for safe work practices.
- Conduct bi-weekly safety meetings with field and office leadership to promote safety culture and buy in, as well as discuss pertinent happenings including hot topics, near misses, upcoming jobs, etc.
- Create and present weekly Toolbox Talks to the field leadership, for ultimate presentation to the workforce. Monitor and periodically attend Tool Box Talks to assure documentation and quality
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses for major tasks at each jobsite, and work to create awareness to these hazards. This is a critical aspect of an effective safety program.
- Perform rigorous accident investigations as required for near-misses, accidents, etc.
- Apply knowledge of construction worksite safety practices and procedures
- Verify that subcontractors are adhering to the Site Safety Management Plan, OSHA and all other regulations
- Maintain OSHA 30 for Construction
- Establish and maintain documentation required by OSHA and local safety authorities.
- Record and track all violations of safety and environmental rules, regulations, codes, and standards.
- Ensure corrective action for violations is taken in an expedient manner.
- Develop, prepare, and submit site-specific HASPS for each project.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and other compliance related tasks.
- Perform weekly site inspections at every active site to ensure cleanliness, compliance, proper waste handling, etc.
- Interface with insurance group and provide required documentation and submittals to monitor safety performance.
- Other miscellaneous tasks requested by Company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field strongly preferred.
- 3-7 years of field safety experience in heavy civil construction, transportation or related field.
- Knowledge of general construction safety and health regulations, including OSHA.
- Certified Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certificate or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Experience with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong computer skills including Office 365 productivity suite.
