Summary of Position:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Accounting Manager to join our dynamic accounting team. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing guidance on technical accounting matters, researching accounting issues, and implementing accounting policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements. The Technical Accounting Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to assess the impact of new accounting standards and provides recommendations to management.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
The following represents most of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental, and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.
The Technical Accounting duties you will be responsible for include:
- Providing guidance and preparing memos on complex accounting issues related to the industry, including revenue recognition, asset impairment, asset acquisitions, business combinations, and lease accounting.
- Coordinating various third-party valuations and ensuring alignment with applicable accounting guidance.
- Staying updated on new accounting pronouncements and regulations, assessing their impact on financial reporting, and implementing necessary changes accordingly.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Conducting research and analysis to support accounting treatment decisions and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review financial statements and disclosures to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide training and educational resources to finance and accounting teams on accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with developing and maintaining effective internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and accounting operations.
- Supporting the audit process in support of the respective controller(s).
- Working closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, operations, and tax, to address accounting and reporting considerations for business transactions and initiatives.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Have a Bachelors and/or Masters in Accounting.
- CPA certification required.
- Must have 8+ years industry related progressive accounting with at least 4 years of recent technical accounting experience.
- Big Four public accounting experience of 6+ years within the oil and gas industry in-lieu of 8+ years industry experience.
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP (business combinations, revenue recognition, lease accounting is a plus), SEC reporting requirements, and other relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Must have strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex accounting guidance and financial data.
- Must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate technical concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Have a proven track record of driving process improvements and implementing best practices in accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Workday) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications is preferred.
- Experience with accounting software and financial reporting tools (e.g., DFIN ActiveDisclosure, OneStream) is preferred.
