Position: Prevention Community Organizer

Location: Waco, TX with limited local travel
Starting Salary: $40,000
Notes: This position is grant-funded and its continuation is contingent upon continued grant funding annually.
General Duties: Under the direction of the Prevention and Education Director, the Prevention Community Organizer will lead community-level sexual violence primary prevention efforts by mobilizing and partnering with community members and organizations; facilitating community-level prevention initiatives, specifically with communities disproportionately impacted by sexual violence; and facilitating groups and presentations to youth, professionals, and parents. The organizer will also create resources for individuals, families, and communities.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Prevention and Education Director in the development and implementation of all prevention programming.
2. Work under the direction of the Prevention and Education Director to lead the planning and execution of community-level prevention efforts and initiatives.
3. Identify, connect with, and develop community-level participants and leaders in local neighborhoods and community organizations in the efforts to prevent sexual violence.
4. Under the direction of the Prevention and Education Director, facilitate community-level prevention initiatives for agency-identified underserved populations including but not limited to the LGBTQ+ community, Black/African American community, and Hispanic/Latino/a/e community.
5. Provide group facilitation in schools and other youth-based settings as needed on a variety of topics including: healthy relationships, conflict resolution, consent, teen dating violence, safe touch/unsafe touch, feelings, bullying, internet safety, and more, with the aim of preventing sexual violence and creating meaningful change in attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that support sexual violence.
6. Provide group facilitation and presentations for professionals and parents on a variety of topics, with the aim of preventing sexual violence and creating meaningful change in attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that support sexual violence.
7. Prepare materials for groups and presentations.
8. Staff an agency booth at community events and provide information about the prevention of sexual violence.
9. Complete required paperwork after each community meeting, group facilitation, and presentation.
10. Create relevant and informational social media content and other online resources.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Training, experience, and education must support the position.
- A Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, psychology, public health, or sociology preferred.
Experience:
- Experience engaging community members and a variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
- The organizer must demonstrate the ability to initiate and maintain dialogue with individuals, including children and youth, and organizations with diverse experience and viewpoints, in a variety of settings, and on a wide range of sometimes taboo and uncomfortable topics
- Knowledge of sexual assault with trauma issues related to children, adults, and families
Other skills and requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required
- Familiarity with social media and content creation
- Must communicate well and function responsibly in a team setting and independently.
- Must demonstrate awareness of and a commitment to culturally competent and sensitive practice.
- May be required to drive to a variety of locations in the six counties that the Advocacy Center serves as need arises and funding allows, for which they will be reimbursed.
- English and Spanish fluency is required.
- Commitment to the goals, objectives, and values of the Advocacy Center.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License
