THE POSITION:
The City of Hayward’s Library Services Department has an exciting recruitment for a part-time Lead Library Assistant to support in program data entry and Library program development and execution.
Under direction from library management personnel, plans, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned library clerical staff, i.e., Library Pages. Performs complex and varied non-professional library work requiring advanced training and aptitude; provides customer service and assists library users in the use of library facilities, technology and equipment; performs data entry and maintenance of simple library records, including library user records, Link+ coordination; and performs related duties as required. Makes frequent contact with the general public, volunteers and other departmental staff; handles and processes library materials and equipment; and adheres to the standards, policies and procedures of the City of Hayward and its Public Library.
You have:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three (3) years of responsible library clerical experience. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are highly desirable.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
License: Special assignments require possession and maintenance of a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to: work in an indoor environment including lifting boxes of books up to fifty (50) pounds in weight; frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, reaching over head for shelving of materials, and pushing and pulling of book carts. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The examination process will result in a ranked eligible register of candidates for hiring consideration by the department derived from any of the exam processes mentioned above.

Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history verification, medical evaluation, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.
