Organization Overview
The Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), a nonprofit, community–based, community development organization, has served the communities of Washington Heights, Hamilton Heights, and Inwood for over 72 years. From its inception as a block association on West 159th Street, CLOTH has worked to provide a comprehensive range of services for its neighbors, expanding its programming over the years to encompass affordable housing development, tenant and community organizing, afterschool programs, nutrition, job training, primary health care, and education, among others. Over the years, CLOTH has developed more than 3000 units of affordable and supportive housing. The Organization also conceived, developed and now partners with a 6th to 12th grade New York City Public School, the Community Health Academy of the Heights. In all of its work, CLOTH continues to operate under the guiding principle: “Our doors are always open to neighbors in need.”
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Grant Writer to join the CLOTH team. The Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying grant opportunities, preparing grant proposals, and managing the grant application process. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, a strong understanding of grant writing principles, and the ability to effectively research funding opportunities.
Responsibilities:
1. Research grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
2. Develop and maintain a database of potential grant opportunities.
3. Collaborate with program managers to identify funding needs and priorities.
4. Write clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals.
5. Ensure that all grant proposals are submitted on time and meet the requirements of the funding organization.
6. Coordinate with finance and program staff to gather necessary information for grant applications.
7. Track and report on the status of grant applications and awards.
8. Maintain relationships with funders and provide updates on the organization's activities and impact.
9. Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as English, communications, or nonprofit management).
2. Proven experience in grant writing, with a successful track record of securing funding.
3. Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling narratives.
4. Strong research skills, with the ability to identify relevant funding opportunities.
5. Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
6. Knowledge of grant writing best practices and funding trends.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce and grant management software (e.g.,GrantHub, Submittable).
9. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in a related field (such as nonprofit management or public administration).
2. Certification in grant writing or fundraising.
3. Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
4. Familiarity with specific funding sources relevant to our organization's mission and programs.
Work Environment:
This position is office-based, with some opportunities for remote work. The Grant Writer will collaborate with various departments within the organization and may occasionally attend meetings or events outside of normal business hours.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
